Why Cryo Lipo is better than alternatives...

Lets face it, Liposuction will reduce localised pockets of fat at a higher percentage than non-surgical procedures. However, there are important issues to consider when opting for surgery over non-surgical alternatives. Other than complications that can arise from the anaesthetic, there is a considerable down-time period whereby the patient will be restricted to limited activities. Many liposuction patients are happy with their results, but sometimes too much fat is removed via chanels and a dent is left. Aesthetically, the patient is not happy.

When it comes to non-surgical alternatives of fat reduction, there are 3 main contenders; Laser Lipolysis, Ultrasonic Cavitation and Cryo-Therapy (Fat Freezing). Here is an overview of how each treatment differs.

Laser Lipolysis shrinks fat cells - the fatty contents of the cell are released, but only with exercise will you benefit from this treatment, otherwise the cells will re-absorb the fat. It will give you inch loss if you follow the rules, but these results are not permanent fat removal.

Ultrasonic Cavitation is a permanent fat removal treatment, which selectively destroys fat cells over a series of treatments using ultrasound. You will need 5-8 treatments to get noticeable results costing around $200 per area/per treatment. Only 2 areas can be treated at one time. The type of cell death from this treatment is called cell necrosis.

Fat Freezing is a permanent fat removal treatment which destroys fat cells safely using cryo lipolysis technology. Once the area targeted has been suctioned into the applicator, cooling takes place. 7 days after treatment, cell apoptosis begins and at around 14 days post procedure, begin to flush out through the liver. This process can take up to 8 weeks. Up to 6 areas can be treated in one session with approximately 26-33% permanent fat removal in just one session. This is why this treatment is the most sought after of all non-surgical fat reduction procedures. Cell death from this treatment is called cell apoptosis.

CELL APOPTOSIS v's CELL NECROSIS - What does that even mean??

When we look at types of non-invasive fat reduction, it soon becomes clear why fat freezing is the most advanced treatment on the market today. Energy delivered treatment's like HIFU, RF and Laser induce a disruptive cell death called cell necrosis which causes cell trauma through sudden death, rupture of membrane (causing damage to neighbouring cells) with the probabability of scarring. Fat Freezing (Cryo Lipolysis)  is completely safe, because the freezing cold temperatures induce a safe cell destruction called Cell Apoptosis, which is a natural, biological process with no risk of scar tissue.

What to expect after your IceFusion treatment

Following your treatment, you may expect some or none of the following symptoms immediately after your procedure and symptoms may persist for up to 8 weeks. Most clients experience no or very mild side effects but, as with any procedure, each client varies.

Symptoms always subside over time and there have been NO long lasting complications reported. The treated area can be red for 20 minutes to up to a few hours after the applicator is removed. This redness is expected but temporary.

Swelling, bruising and tenderness can occur in the area treated. Typically, this resolves within a few days to a week or so. Nausea, stinging, tingling or/and cramping in the treatment area are all possibilities on the treatment day. In some cases, clients can find the treatment area itchy and/or irritable.

Numbness is common on the treated area, which usually subsides very soon after, but in some cases can resolve over 1-3 weeks.

Typically, there is no or minimal recovery time after IceFusion. In most cases, you can immediately return to your normal routine after the procedure.

It’s common for the treatment area to look swollen and you may feel bloated for the first three weeks after IceFusion. If desired, you may wear compression tights such as Spanx during this period. There have been some instances reported where a temporary dulling sensation occurs that can last for several weeks.

Due to an inflammatory response in your body to naturally remove the dead fat cells, 4 to 10 days post Icefusion treatment, you may notice more intense sensations than during the first few days. This can be referred to as delayed onset pain. For most clients, the symptoms are very mild / moderate but can often be heightened in the evening when trying to sleep.

The following post treatment side effects may occur:

  • Tingling

  • Itching

  • Tenderness, numbness or soreness to the touch

  • Aching or pain in the area treated

  •  Muscle spasms or cramping

  • Diarrhea

Please contact your GP if these conditions persist beyond two weeks

When should you expect to see results?

Following your fat freezing treatment, the layer of fat targeted will reduce at a gradual pace. Some clients notice changes in as early as three weeks post treatment, but the most dramatic changes occur after two to three months. However, your body will continue to pass the dead fat cells from the area treated for around four months after your treatment.

How can you maximize your treatment results?

Increasing water intake can speed up your metabolism and help flush the dead fat cells out. A study published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and metabolism found that drinking water (about 17oz) increases the metabolic rate by 30 percent in healthy men and women. A healthy diet and exercise routine after your procedure can help prevent weight gain. As with any permanent fat removal treatment including liposuction, IceFusion will kill and destroy fat cells from the area treated. If more calories are consumed than you are burning off, the extra calories will be stored as fat in alternative locations in your body. There has never been a better time to evaluate your eating habits and introduce exercise to optimize your result.

If possible, avoid the use of anti-inflammatory medications such as Ibuprofen, naproxen and Celebrex for up to 6 weeks post treatment, as it generally agreed that your results may be compromised whilst using this medication. The inflammatory response in your body is the mechanism which removes the fat cells. If you have been given anti-inflammatories to help assist a condition you have, please refer to your GP/Doctor before following this advice.

A follow-up appointment will be scheduled to review your results with the option of further treatments to achieve desired outcome.

Are there any risk's associated with this treatment?

We believe that everybody has the right to make an informed decision to have any treatment, no matter how small the risk.

Since the introduction of cryo-lipolysis, there have been over 650,000 treatment's performed worldwide and until now, very little side effects have been reported. However, a rare condition called Paradoxical Adipose Hyperplasia has been discovered in approximately 0.0051% (1 in 20,000) of clients who have undergone this treatment - with no evidence to suggest typical risk factor's, although the risk tends to be higher in males. Paradoxical Adipose Hyperplasia is an increase in adipose tissue with a delayed onset. This means that the client can gain more fat post treatment.
