TEAR TROUGHS
As we age the junction between the lower eyelids and the cheeks can become hollow leading to tired, aging appearance. This is called the tear trough, and slopes from the inner corner of the eye towards the cheek.
A small amount of dermal filler into the year trough can be used to improve this area.
CROWS FEET
“Crows Feet” are a cluster of tiny wrinkles and fine lines that form around the outer corners of the eyes.
They are caused by the contraction of the Obicularis Oris (dynamic lines), and due to a loss of collagen and elastin ( static lines), wrinkle relaxants are the mainstay of treatment in this area.
BUNNY LINES
This refers to the straight slightly diagonal lines that extends from both sides of the nose when a person smiles or laughs.
A small amount of wrinkle relaxant into this region will soften or correct this issue.
CHIN CREASE
This is a horizontal groove between the chin and the area below the bottom lips.
Treatment of this are can include injection of dermal filler into the groove to soften the crease, or injection of wrinkle relaxant into the Mentalis (chin) muscles.
MARIONETTE LINES
Marionette lines refer to the vertical line that runs from the corners of the mouth down to the chin.
They are caused by the loss of elasticity, volume and fat and dermal fillers in this area can be used to improve this region. Similarly fillers along the jawline can be used to restore a strong defined youthful jawline, and help to minimise the appearance of jowls.
FROWN LINES
The frown lines are caused by the contraction of the Corrugator muscles (eyebrow depressors), and give an angry look.
Injection of wrinkle relaxants along the length of the muscle can be used to prevent or treat frown lines.
MOUTH FROWN & ACCORDION LINES
The mouth frown refers to the downturn in the corners of the mouth that can occur as we age, this can often lead to a ‘sad’ look. Loss of elasticity in the skin and repeated use of the perioral muscles contribute to this issue. Dermal Fillers placed near the corners of the mouth can be used to create an upturn in the corners, and can be used to replace volume lost in this area. Small amounts of wrinkle relaxants can also be placed into the lower lip depressors to prevent their downward action.
Accordion lines are the lines on either side of the lower half of the face, caused by repeated muscle action when you smile. They increase as you age due to loss of elasticity in the skin. Dermal fillers can be placed here to soften these lines.
LIP ENHANCEMENT & REJUVENATION
Full lips with a defined border are a feature of youthful attractiveness. As we age, natural components of the lips including collagen, elastin and Hyaluronic Acid, that give the lips structure and volume gradually diminish.
Consequently, the lips and surrounding areas become subject to volume loss and structural changes.
The corners of the mouth can begin to droop giving a sad or angry look ( mouth frown). The Cupid’s bow ( v shaped area of the upper lip), can flatten out, and smokers lines ( vertical lip lines) may also appear.
Dermal fillers containing Hyaluronic Acid can be used not only to restore volume or plump up the lips, but also to create definition of the lips and surrounding structures.
The lips are a very sensitive area, and in addition to the anaesthetic contained within the fillers, additional anaesthetic is provided ( either topical ointment or injection),
Side effects of the procedure are usually temporary and mild and include pain, swelling, bruising and temporary lumps. It is best for the client to avoid any drugs that thin the blood for a week or two before having their lips enhanced. ( Anti-inflammatories, Alcohol, fish oil, garlic and Gingko, can also thin the blood). Clients with a history of cold sores, may also be advised to commence a prophylactic course of cold sore treatment post procedure.
The results of the procedure are seen immediately post completion of the treatment, but there may be some swelling, and the final result will be seen when this swelling subsides. Typically the fillers should last 10-12 months.
LIP WRINKLES
Vertical lip lines (“smokers lines), are mostly caused by regular lip movements, but also due to the loss of volume, collagen and elastin as we age.
A small amount of muscle relaxant can be use to improve lip wrinkles, by subtly reducing perioral movements. Dermal Fillers can also be used to soften or correct these lines
DERMAL FILLERS
The dermal filler is administered through injection into the desired area, by a trained medical professional. The product does contain anesthetic, but further anesthetic may also need to be added (topical or injected).
Most procedures take between 15-30 minutes, and clients can usually resume their normal activities immediately after the treatment. The result of the treatment can be immediately post procedure.
Dermal fillers are injected below the skin surface to:
-
‘Fill-in’ wrinkles and fine lines
-
‘Plump-up’ small areas such as lips
-
‘ Re-volumise large areas such as the cheeks and temples.
-
In doing so the aim is to either enhance or restore the client’s natural features.
Areas prone to skin volume loss include:
-
Cheeks
-
Lips
-
Brows
-
Temples
-
Perioral regions (vertical lip ‘smokers’ lines, marionette lines)
-
Jawline
-
Tear troughs
-
Dermal fillers are a smooth inject-able gel made from a natural complex sugar called Hyaluronic Acid (HA).
-
HA is found in all human skin and assists in skin hydration by attracting and holding water. It also combines with collagen and elastin to help provide skin structure and elasticity.
The side effects are usually mild and temporary; the most common of these include pain, redness, swelling, lumps and bruising at the injection site. These are largely self-limiting and should resolve within a week.
FOREHEAD LINES
Horizontal lines on the forehead are caused by the contraction of the Frontalis muscles. Lines can be Dynamic ( only present when raising the eyebrows), or Static ( due to collagen and elastin loss, lines remain also at rest).
Wrinkle relaxants are the mainstay of prevention and treatments of these lines, but Dermal fillers can also be used to soften static lines.
CHEEK VOLUME
As we age, facial fat loss, loss of skin elasticity and the effects of gravity lead to a loss of volume and flattening of the midface, often resulting in a ‘tired’ look.
Dermal fillers can be used to restore volume to the cheeks/ cheekbones, resulting in more youthful facial contours. Correcting midface volume loss will also improve the appearance of Nasolabial folds, tear troughs and marionette lines.
WRINKLE RELAXANTS
Treatment is quick and simple and involves several injections of a naturally purified protein into specifically located sites using a very fine needle.
These injections work by inhibiting the transmission of signals between the nerves and the injected muscle. This stops the affected muscle from contracting, and in turn, reduces the creasing of the overlying skin. Wrinkle relaxants can be used both in the treatment of existing lines, and in the prevention of future wrinkles from occurring.
Wrinkle relaxants can be used as a very effective treatment to relax the muscles that cause the upper facial lines to form. Typically, these include:
-
Frown lines
-
Crows Feet
-
Forehead lines
As well as being used to treat a number of medical conditions including migraine and tension headaches, excessive sweating and the grinding of teeth.

Typically the procedure is very quick with no anesthetic required with no downtime. The client can resume their normal daily activities immediately after the procedure. Side effects are usually temporary and limited. These include:
-
Pain – burning and stinging
-
Bruising
-
Swelling or redness at the injection site
-
Headache
-
Local muscle weakness- drooping eyelids/eyebrows
The results of the procedure start to appear within 2-3 days, but can take 7-14 days to take full effect. Each treatment usually lasts 3-4 months. If you choose not to have further treatments your muscles will return to normal activity and your facial lines will gradually revert to their pre-treatment level.
BROWS
The use of both Dermal fillers or wrinkle relaxants can be use to manipulate the shape or position of the eyebrow. Also hollowing around the brow can increase as we age.
Dermal fillers can be used to improve this area, restoring the natural contours of the brow and temple regions.
NASOLABIAL FOLDS
Nasolabial folds run from each side of the nose to the corner of the mouth. They become more noticeable as we age due to loss of fat from the cheeks and reduced skin volume.
Deep nasolabial folds can be corrected through injections of dermal filler into the surrounding area restoring lost volume and softening the appearance of these folds. Restoring the volume of the cheeks/mid face can also improve the appearance of Nasolabial folds.
